Effective Date: 1 April 2026·Governing Law: Republic of South Africa·Version 1.0

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using The Zululander website (www.thezululander.co.za), subscribing to our newsletter, submitting content, placing advertisements, or listing properties or businesses on our platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"), our Privacy Policy, and all applicable South African laws and regulations.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately cease using our website and services. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and The Zululander.

2. About The Zululander

The Zululander is an independent digital news and advertising publication serving the Zululand region of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We publish news, community information, advertising content, business listings, and property listings. Our editorial content is produced by journalists and contributors committed to accuracy, fairness, and serving the public interest of the Zululand community.

The Zululander operates as a digital-first publication and does not publish a print edition. All content is published electronically and is accessible to the public via our website and newsletter.

3. Digital Legal Notices — Legal Standing

Important Notice Regarding Digital Publication

This section sets out the legal standing of notices and announcements published on The Zululander platform in accordance with South African law.

The Zululander recognises the evolving legal framework governing digital publications in South Africa. The 2025 Master's Directive issued by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development confirmed that digitally published notices — including those under the Administration of Estates Act and related legislation — are fully compliant when published on approved online platforms that meet strict legal and procedural requirements.

Requirements for legally valid digital notices on The Zululander:

  • Notices must be freely accessible to the public without registration or payment requirements
  • Notices must be permanently archived and accessible for the legally required period
  • Notices must target the correct district or jurisdiction (Zululand / North KZN region)
  • Where required by statute, notices must appear in both English and Afrikaans
  • A verifiable proof of publication (date-stamped URL and screenshot) is provided upon request
  • Notices must comply with the formatting requirements of the relevant statute or the Government Gazette

Limitation: While The Zululander strives to meet the requirements for legally valid digital notices, we do not guarantee that all notices published on our platform will be accepted by all courts, the Master of the High Court, or other authorities in all circumstances. Parties publishing legal notices are advised to confirm acceptance with the relevant authority before relying solely on publication in The Zululander. For notices requiring Government Gazette publication, the Gazette remains the authoritative publication of record.

For proof of publication, date-stamped archives, or certified publication certificates, contact us at [email protected].

4. Editorial Standards and Accuracy

The Zululander is committed to responsible, accurate, and fair journalism. We adhere to the following editorial standards:

  • We strive to verify information before publication through multiple sources where possible
  • We clearly distinguish between news reporting, opinion, and sponsored/advertising content
  • We provide the right of reply to individuals or organisations who are the subject of critical reporting
  • We correct factual errors promptly and transparently
  • We protect the identity of confidential sources
  • We do not publish content that is defamatory, unlawful, or in violation of any person's rights

Complaints: If you believe a published article contains factual errors, is defamatory, or violates your rights, contact our editor at [email protected]. We will investigate and respond within 5 business days.

The Zululander is not a member of the Press Council of South Africa (PCSA) but voluntarily adheres to the principles of the South African Press Code as a guide to ethical journalism.

5. Advertising Terms and Conditions

The following terms apply to all advertising placed on The Zululander, whether through our website, newsletter, or social media channels:

  • All advertising content is clearly labelled as "Advertisement," "Sponsored," or "Promoted" to distinguish it from editorial content
  • Advertisers are responsible for ensuring their advertising content is accurate, lawful, and does not infringe any third-party rights
  • The Zululander reserves the right to refuse, modify, or remove any advertisement that violates these Terms, is misleading, offensive, or contrary to public interest
  • Payment for advertising is required in advance unless a credit account has been established in writing
  • Cancellations must be received at least 48 hours before the scheduled publication date; cancellations after this period may be subject to a cancellation fee
  • The Zululander does not guarantee specific placement, reach, or results from advertising unless expressly agreed in writing
